Pet Wellness Visit Includes Complete Exam, Vaccinations for the Communities of Baltimore, Nottingham, Parkville and Carney
As with your own personal health, preventative care is crucial for your pet’s quality of life. Whether you have a dog or a cat, it’s important to schedule a wellness exam at least once per year. We often recommend that our Baltimore, Nottingham, Parkville and Carney patients with senior pets come in every six months so we can provide them with the care they need during their later years. Remember that your furry friend can’t tell you when something feels wrong or out of place, but our experienced veterinarians can detect a problem in its early stages at a wellness visit.
At Fullerton Animal Hospital, we begin our wellness visits by talking with the pet parent about the pet’s lifestyle. We will ask you plenty of questions about your pet, its daily activities, its diet and its general moods and tendencies. At this time, it’s important that you share with us anything your pet is going through that might be out of the ordinary. This includes diarrhea, excessive eating or drinking, coughing, weight loss or weight gain.
Once we have discussed your pet’s lifestyle, we will then do a complete exam on your dog or cat. The first step involves taking vital statistics about your pet. We will record your animal’s pulse, temperature and body weight. We will inform you of these statistics, and help you understand their context in terms of your pet’s overall health. For instance, excessive weight gain may be an issue for your pet. An additional pound or two can be a big deal for a small animal, so we may help you develop a diet that is better for your pet’s general health and also keeps their weight gain in check.
After the vital statistics have been recorded and discussed, we will do a complete exam on your pet. We will look at your animal’s eyes, ears and mouth to make sure there is nothing out of the ordinary and make sure there are no causes for concern. We will then listen to your pet’s heart and analyze their lungs through the use of a stethoscope. After the heart and lungs have been listened to, the veterinarian will inspect your pet’s skin for fleas, ticks and signs of skin disease.
At the end of the wellness visit, your pet will receive any and all vaccinations that are necessary. We recommend vaccinations for all pets in Baltimore in order to help them live full, healthy lives with minimal complications. Call us at (410) 665-6996 to schedule an appointment today!
